In this video, I teach you how to build a row from a starting chain and how to do a single crochet (sc) stitch. I also teach you how to tell the right from the wrong side and talk about how to gain height for your row.
To work a single crochet row into a chain, you will:
1. Add an extra chain just to gain height.
2. Stick your hook into the second chain from your hook, under the top loop.
3. Yarn over. You now have three loops on your hook.
4. Pull the first loop through the chain. You now have two loops on your hook.
5. Yarn over again and pull through the two loops.
You have completed a single crochet! Now just continue all the way across to finish your row. If you’d like to do another, at the end of the row, turn and chain 1, but this time, work into your first single crochet. This is explained in more detail in the next video in this tutorial series.
So far, what you have learned will show up in a pattern: chain (ch), yarn over (yo), single crochet (sc), and turn.
