Five Stitches Crochet

In this video, I show you how to do a row of double crochet stitches and how to do a very simple color change at the end of the row.

This video builds on the three previous videos: the first showing you how to chain, the second teaching how to do a row of single crochets, and the third showing how to do a row of half double crochet stitches.

To work a double crochet row into an existing row, you will:

1. Add two extra chains just to gain height.

2. Yarn over. You now have two loops on your hook.

3. Stick your hook through the first stitch of the previous row (unless the pattern indicates otherwise), under both of the top loops. You now have three loops on your hook.

4. Yarn over. You now have four loops on your hook.

5. Pull the first loop through the row. You now have three loops on your hook.

6. Yarn over again and pull through two loops. 

7. Yarn over again and pull through two more loops.

You have completed a double crochet! Now just continue all the way across (repeating steps 2-7 above) to finish your row. If you’d like to do another, at the end of the row, turn, chain 2 again, and carry on.

The next video will show you how to do a triple (treble) crochet.

So far, what you have learned will show up in a pattern: chain (ch), yarn over (yo), single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), (dc), and turn.
